Hey Maniacs,

OJR here and it’s time once again to pick out the best of the best for MMAmaniac Quote of the Week.  Not surprisingly, we have a very competitive bunch this week.

MMA Reality: Victory and Praise, Being Humbled and Defeated at UFC 118

Couture-wins_medium

There comes a time in everyone’s life where an opportunity is presented to re-evaluate your life, your career, your circle of friends, etc. In a fighter’s life it is no different. Of course, the situation is much more amplified when millions of people watch you struggle, watch you lose and watch you fade.

UFC 118 was one of those times for a lot of fighters.

We saw Kenny Florian hit a crossroad in his career. Already well into his 30’s, and failing in two title fights, he lost a number one contender bout in the same fashion he has always struggled with: Being dominating by positional wrestling.

We next saw Randy Couture do what was expected, nothing overly impressive. He is in his late 40’s, well past what many expect to be the physical prime of athletes and participated in a squash fight that did little to nothing for his career path if he wants to stay at the elite level…

NY assemblyman Bob Reilly: Violence is not good for society

September 3rd, 2010 No comments »

Hey, do you want to listen to someone ignorant but powerful speak about MMA? Here you go!

New York assemblyman Bob Reilly is a guest on HDNet’s Inside MMA on Friday evening, and he says that the violence in the cage is not good for society. He tries to address violence in other sports, like football and boxing, but is unsuccessful at explaining how the violence on the football field is different than the violence in the cage.

We’ve discussed Assemblyman Reilly and his lack of understanding of MMA several times before, so there is no need to rehash why he is wrong. I give Reilly credit for meeting his opponents on their field, but it’s a shame that he didn’t walk in with an open mind.

Watch the full report on Inside MMA on HDNet at 9 p.m. ET.

UFC 122: Kyle Noke vs Rob Kimmons planned for Nov. 13 in Oberhausen

Noke-kimmons_medium

Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 contestant Kyle Noke (17-4-1) will return to the Spike TV airwaves when he travels abroad to face Rob Kimmons(23-5) at UFC 122 on Nov. 13 from the Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany, according to MMAWeekly.

Despite getting sent home by eventual finalist Kris McCray, Noke redeemed his stint on the Spike TV reality show with an impressive technical knockout over fellow contestant Josh Bryant during the show’s live finale back on June 19.

In addition to his first Octagon win, “KO” is battle-tested, having thrown hands with some of the sport’s top names like Scott Smith, Hector Lombard and George Sotiropoulos.

A win over the experienced Kimmons could help him get into the title race sooner rather than later.

Like Noke, “The Rosedale Reaper”is no stranger to combat.

The biggest knock on the grappling stud is his inconsistency inside the Octagon…

Watch Joe Warren KO Joe Soto for Bellator featherweight title

September 3rd, 2010 No comments »

As we wrote about last night, Joe Warren won the Bellator featherweight championship with a shocking comeback. Watch as Bellator commentator starts to say that he scored the first round 10-8 for Soto, then is interrupted by Warren’s quick right to knock down Soto.

With that, Warren won the Bellator featherweight title, proclaiming himself the "baddest man on the planet." In the space of a year and a half, he’s moved from being a world champion wrestler to a champion fighter.

UFC 124: Thiago Alves vs John Howard likely for Dec. 11 in Montreal

Alves-howard_medium

Former welterweight number one contender Thiago Alves will start his slow climb back up the division ladder when he faces division prospect John Howard at the upcoming UFC 124 pay-per-view (PPV) from the Bell Centre on Dec. 11 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Fighter’s Only confirmed the previously rumored match-up late last night.

“Pitbull” was put back on his leash by 170-pound stalwart Jon Fitch at UFC 117: “Silva vs. Sonnen” back on Aug. 17. It was his second straight loss after a torrid seven-fight winning streak that saw him topple the likes of Chris Lytle, Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck.

While his only losses inside the Octagon have come to Fitch (twice) and reigning champion Georges St. Pierre, the welterweight division is one of the promotion’s deepest, and it could take several wins to once again see Alves challenging for the belt.

Assuming he can make weight…
