MMA Live presence on ESPN 2 extended to August 2010

May 31st, 2010

Congratulations are in order for Jon Anik, Kenny Florian, Franklin McNeil, and the countless others at ESPN who played a significant role in the development and production of MMA Live over the last couple years.

But most of all, congratulations are in order for you, the fans, for making the show as popular as it is today. ESPN has granted MMA Live a three-month extension on ESPN 2 until August due to the loyal viewers, like yourself, that have supported the mixed martial arts news show from jump street.

When MMAmania.com first announced that MMA Live would be making the move from ESPN.com to ESPN 2 back in March, it was also announced that the show would in fact be on a trial run of sorts during the month of May as the “suits” over at the Worldwide Leader sat back and surveyed just how popular the show would become.

Well, it’s popular alright.

MMAmania.com announces UFC Undisputed 2010 Xbox 360 contest winner

MMAmania.com is proud to announce the grand prize winner of our UFC Undisputed 2010 Gamestop sponsored contest give-a-way, Brian Kowalewski.

Brian was able to convince the judges he had “The Ultimate Fight Party” and as a result, gets to lay his hands on a brand-spanking new X-Box 360 console along with a copy of UFC Undisputed 2010, thanks largely in part to our friends over at Gamestop.

Nice work, Brian. You can check out his winning entry in the comments section of our contest post here.

Of course there were several entertaining (and bizarre) entries, including one reader who described the night he was racing home from an event to buy dog food in order to convince a hot girl he wasn’t about to shit his pants, or something to that effect.

As Cleveland Brown would say, that’s nasty.

Thanks again to everyone who participated. And special thanks to <a href="https://www.gamestopufc2010…

Hustle and ‘Flo’: MMAmania.com interview exclusive with Kenny ‘KenFlo (TV)’ Florian

May 30th, 2010

It can only be viewed as a positive. Being so busy and wearing so many hats that you rarely get the time to sit back and appreciate the good fortunes that life has granted you, (cue Ferris Bueller).

That’s exactly where UFC lightweight top contender Kenny Florian finds himself today. Aside from being one of the world’s best lightweights in the sport, which is a feat that for most people would take up a majority of their time to accomplish, Florian can also be seen on ESPN 2 and ESPN.com as the co-host alongside Jon Anik for MMA Live.

And if that wasn’t enough to make you impressed, KenFlo has added yet another feat to his already stellar resume… product spokesperson. More specifically, FLO TV spokesperson, where he joins Will.I.Am, Jim Nantz, and Landon Donavon as endorsers of the revolutionary mobile TV device.

Kenny was kind enough to take time to talk with MMAmania…

Holy (expletive)! Dana White ‘blown away’ by Mike Russow’s KO comeback over Todd Duffee

Quoteworthy:

“I was like ‘Holy Shit!’ I said the same thing everybody else said. I was blown away. ([Mike Russow] was getting picked apart but what a tough guy though, took some big, big shots. He stayed in there, kept his composure and stayed in this fight getting peppered, hammered and drilled with big shots and then ended up pulling off one of his own. It says a lot about him as a fighter and as a human being.”

UFC President Dana White shares his reaction to the stunning, come-from-behind win for Mike Russow at UFC 114 back on May 29. The Chicago cop was on the receiving end of a bona fide ass kicking for two rounds against Todd Duffee in their heavyweight mash-up, until a third round Scott Smith-style miracle knockout punch flattened his muscular foe…

Rampage Jackson: ‘I’m really ashamed of myself that I fell victim to ring rust’

Quoteworthy:

“I’m really ashamed of myself that I fell victim to ring rust. Emotions had nothing to do with it. I focused really hard and I trained really hard on this fight, but me having this damn movie and everything — I kind of almost regret doing the damn movie now. There was so much pressure. (20th Century) Fox kind of threatened to sue me if I lost and everything because they didn’t know I was fighting. [Evans] had a great game plan, and it worked well for him. I’m not a sore loser. That’s why I commended him. We all come for the same cloth. We all put our lives on the line and get in the Octagon and do battle.”

‘Rampage’ second guesses himself on making ‘A-Team’ movie

May 30th, 2010

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson isn’t distraught about losing to Rashad Evans. He’s got eight losses in his career but he sounded torn up by the fact that may not have been at his best for this highly anticipated brawl after a nearly a year of trash talk. Jackson last fought in March of 2009 and was scheduled to face Evans last December but bailed on the fight to play the role of B.A. Baracus in the new A-Team movie. At UFC 114, Jackson looked sluggish at times, tired late and complained of ring rust. He’s putting much the blame on his decision to become a Hollywood star.

"I never had any pressure like this in my whole fighting career. Me having this damn movie," Jackson said of the film that opens on June 11. "I kind of almost regret doing the damn movie and stuff now."

Jackson also mentioned something else that may have added extra pressure to win the fight…
